about

"Gaia" was heavily inspired by the Horizon video game series—it is meant to be an exploration of the fragility of the Earth and what may happen to it as human life continues to prioritize a modern way of life over preserving nature itself. Imagine a world in which human life can no longer be supported by the planet for hundreds of years, and now the towering skyscrapers and "immovable" buildings are crumbling and giving way back to the Earth.

The album artwork for this EP relates to each song, but was primarily inspired by this track. I tried for a few years to write a song about this theme, and finally this song made its way onto the page.

This song is written in a few distinct movements, each representing a different emotion or theme around this—a sadness in the lack of activity and life, a melancholy peacefulness around nature returning, an anger at us not taking the chances we are given to reprioritize the planet, and the power of nature to take back control if it must.
